VSCO Makes a Comeback with “Capture” — A New iPhone Camera App Featuring Film-Like Filters

Visual Supply Co., the company behind the iconic mobile photo-editing app VSCO: Photo Editor that rose to fame over a decade ago, is making a return — this time with its own dedicated camera app called Capture.

Unlike the original VSCO app, which relied on importing photos taken with the iPhone’s native camera, Capture offers a seamless, all-in-one experience. Users can shoot and edit photos within the same app, streamlining the creative process.

According to a report by Chris Welch from Bloomberg, Capture will initially launch with 50 of VSCO’s most popular filters, allowing users to apply them in real-time as they shoot — a key distinction from the traditional VSCO workflow, where filters are applied post-capture. In this sense, Capture functions more like Fujifilm’s Film Simulations or Nikon’s Picture Control settings, bringing a filmic look directly into the viewfinder.

Beyond filters, the app will also feature manual controls, giving photographers the ability to fine-tune exposure, shutter speed, and even bloom intensity before pressing the shutter.

Capture is set to roll out next week in select test markets including Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, with a wider release in the U.S. planned for later this summer.
